FAQ
What should we wear for our portrait session?
Simple is best. Clothing selection is critical and a general rule for family photography is to dress everyone in the same two colors, wear solid neutral colors, stick to lighter tones and pastels. Try to avoid prints, patterns, and stripes. Your faces should dominate the image and not your clothing therefore you should avoid colors or elaborate prints that take attention away from you. Some suggestions for color combinations for family portrait sessions are white and khaki, blue jeans and white, pastels and khaki, black and khaki, black and jeans. For children, solid colors and denims and lacy dresses make for a wonderful portraits. If you are unsure, bring several outfits with you and I will help you choose. Newborns are best in the nude or with very simple clothing and bare feet. If you have a favorite rattle, beanie, booties, etc that you want your newborn photographed in or with, please feel free to bring these items with you.
How should I apply my makeup?
Wear your make-up as usual but applied slightly darker. Do not wear any moisturizers or creams that are too oily or greasy. They will make your skin look oily and shinny! Avoid eye shadows and lipsticks that are glittery and avoid dark colored shadows, they really don't photograph well. Use new mascara to avoid that clumpy look and remember to play up your eyes they are your most important facial features.
Men can wear makeup too, but I would never dream of telling them to do this, but maybe their wives can talk the ones who have oily/shinny skin into just a "wee bit" of pressed powder! (I won't tell if you don't tell!) Oh, and a fresh shave will really make a difference.
How do I style my hair?
I recommended that you wear your hair the way you normally do but since it may be windy outside, use lots of hairspray! And bring a comb or brush with you for touch ups.
What if I wear eye glasses?
I realize that your eye glasses are part of who you are (believe me, my husband and I have this conversation every time I point my camera in his direction as he has worn glasses since his teen years) and I would never dream of asking you to remove them and I will do everything in my power to ensure that you look great wearing your glasses in your portraits. However your lenses are reflective and will reflect images in your line of vision, yes sometimes even the photographer. I use flash even outdoors and it will sometimes reflect off you glasses. That being said, it is a good idea to borrow a pair of frames with no lenses in them from your eye doctor that you can wear during your session.
How long does it take to get my pictures?
Your session photos should be online to view within 14 days of your shoot. You will receive an email from us directing you to your online album.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Unfortunately, weather conditions are out of our control so should the weather be bad with heavy rain or strong winds, then we will reschedule the shoot and I will contact you as soon as possible if this is necessary. If you are visiting our area on vacation it is a good idea to book your session as early into your stay as possible in case it has to be rescheduled due to weather. Often in Florida during our summer we have lots of scattered showers that come and go all day long. If this is the case on the day of your session, I may call you and arrange to shoot your session at a different time of the day in-between the showers as it is not necessary to have bright sunshine for a successful portrait session, in fact, a slightly cloudy day is often much more ideal. If you are an out of town client and we are unable to complete your session due to weather and can%u2019t reschedule due to your schedule, your session fee will be refunded.
